WakeMed Hospital Grade: Still Top Notch for OBGYN

A few patients over the last several weeks have asked us about the recently publicized “ health grade” WakeMed Raleigh got from the LeapFrog group. It got a “C” which at first glance is NOT what you want to see right? We, as a group not owned/operated by WakeMed would never do business at WakeMed if we were not fully comfortable in the quality of care our patients can get there. The local media failed to accentuate the positives about the obstetrical services provided at WakeMed by Leapfrog this year, so we would like to take a minute to highlight those areas.

Why Deliver with Kamm McKenzie? The data is in your favor.

Hopefully there are all kinds of reasons why you would want to join our practice.  Here is a big one.  Our cesarean section rate continues to be one of the lowest in the nation.  The Leapfrog Group tracks quality outcome measures in hospitals across the county.  They just released their most recent review of Maternity Care.  In it they report the cesarean section rate for first time moms at term with a single head down baby (NSVT).

Vaginal Seeding: Fact or Fiction?

Every once in a while at the office we are asked by our pregnant patients if “vaginal seeding” is offered or not to our patients who have a C-section.  If this term is new to you, the American College of OBGYN (ACOG) Committee Opinion on vaginal seeding defines it as “the practice of inoculating cotton gauze or a cotton swab with vaginal fluids to transfer the vaginal flora to the mouth, nose, or skin of a newborn infant. The intended purpose of vaginal seeding is to transfer maternal vaginal bacteria to the newborn.”

Things That Start With the Letter "C"

Some of you are aware that, yes, we do have chickens at our Computer Drive office. That starts with the letter “C”, but this blog post isn’t about them. Cesarean section starts with the letter “C”; let’s talk about that for a bit. I was compiling some data to share with an insurance company who has recently developed a product that doesn’t include WakeMed or Duke as an option for people who end up with that insurance plan. That limits your choice.

Dr Yoon: A Late Introduction and Year in Review

It has been a great privilege to be with the Kamm McKenzie for over a year.  I've been meaning to write a short blog about myself but jumping into a busy practice with a young family has made extra time a very limited resource.  I’ve had a great experience from day 1 and I can’t envision a better team to be a part of.

Permanent Sterilization: Option 1, 2, or 3

Permanent birth control for women involves removing all or part of the fallopian tube, or blocking the fallopian tube, so that when an egg is released from the ovary it does not travel to the uterus. There are 3 ways to do this...

2016: Reflections From One Doctor

2016... what a year!

I took advantage of some of my days off around New Year's to relax and reflect on my 2016.  I started with Kamm McKenzie in the summer of 2015, so 2016 was my first full year with the practice.   And what a year it has been!

VBAC - A Closer Look

VBAC is an often desired delivery for patients who are seen at Kamm McKenzie.  In fact, we have many women who chose to come to us, or transfer their care to us mid pregnancy, because of our willingness to support a woman’s decision for VBAC and our success rates of vaginal birth.  I think it is important for all to know that we take VBAC seriously and want our patients to be educated on the risk and benefits of this.
