HPV Vaccination

At Kamm McKenzie OBGYN we offer HPV vaccination for young women ages 11-26 with the GARDASIL vaccine.

GARDASIL is a vaccine that helps protect young women and young men against four of the most common strains of the HPV (human papillomavirus).  In women ages 9-26, this vaccine helps protect against 2 types of HPV (16, 18) that cause approximately 75% of all cervical cancers and 2 types of HPV (6, 11) that cause approximately 90% of genital warts.  GARDASIL also helps prevent both vaginal and vulvar cancers.

HPV vaccination is recommended by both the Centers for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics for all adolescents ages 11-12 as part of the routine immunization schedule, and for young women and men ages 13-26 who have not been previously vaccinated.  This vaccination series consists of 3 injections which are completed over 6 months at a 0, 2 and 6 month schedule.   Even if a patient has had a history of abnormal pap smear, she is an excellent candidate for HPV vaccination because it is very unlikely that she has been exposed to all four strains of HPV that are covered by the GARDASIL vaccine.

GARDASIL is covered by most health insurance plans, but may have an associated co-pay, co-insurance or deductible; we confirm every patient’s health insurance coverage for GARDASIL prior to vaccine administration.    If you have not started, or completed, the GARDASIL vaccination series, you may call our office to schedule a consultation or discuss GARDASIL at your next annual exam.
