DR YOON: A LATE INTRODUCTION AND YEAR IN REVIEW

It has been a great privilege to be with the Kamm McKenzie for over a year.  I’ve been meaning to write a short blog about myself but jumping into a busy practice with a young family has made extra time a very limited resource.  I’ve had a great experience from day 1 and I can’t envision a better team to be a part of.

I am a Raleigh native, having moved to the area when I was about 3 years old.  I am the son of Korean-immigrant parents who chose the Triangle area because of the great educational opportunities available for my sister and me.  I have a wonderful and gracious wife, Emily, whom I’ve known since our years trotting around Enloe High School together.  We have a sweet daughter, Adeline who is 19 months and will soon be a big sister to a brother coming in February of 2018.  It has been a true blessing to be back home with our families and we have loved re-establishing our roots here.  We are active members at Edenton Street United Methodist Church.  I love to play golf as time allows and enjoy playing basketball at the local YMCA as many mornings as possible before work.

It has been a joy getting to know you and your families over this last year.  I hear on a regular basis from my partners that they have seen someone else that knew me from growing up here in Raleigh.  We have been able to reconnect with friends from our childhood through the practice and both my wife and I have loved building relationships with old friends.

Looking over Dr. Kalinowski’s year in review blog post got me curious about my own numbers during my first year in practice, so I spent some time counting them up.  I delivered 171 babies through 168 deliveries, including 3 sets of twins. Of these deliveries, 142 were vaginal births. Ten were repeat cesarean sections). Sixteen were primary (or first) cesarean sections.  Of those 16 first cesarean sections, 7 were planned for indications like breech presentation, and therefore 9 were unplanned cesareans after labor. Out of 168 deliveries total, my primary cesarean rate was excellent at 9.5%. Again, as Dr. Kalinowski mentioned, the national cesarean section rate is upwards of 30%.  I too would like to thank the many nurses and other members of our team who have made this year a great success!

It has been a whirlwind year with many highs and the occasional lows.  I have learned so much about myself, the practice of medicine, and about all of you and your families in this past year.  I want to thank you, our patients, for allowing me to be a part of your lives and for entrusting me with your care during an important season of your lives.
