Alcohol in Pregnancy: Part 1

I don’t have the opportunity to talk much about my “beer hobby" in the office, since so many of our patients are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or breastfeeding. If I do mention that I’m a hophead, I’m often asked, “Can I have a few sips? How much alcohol is safe in pregnancy? Does beer really help the milk let down when breastfeeding?”

VBAC - A Closer Look

VBAC is an often desired delivery for patients who are seen at Kamm McKenzie.  In fact, we have many women who chose to come to us, or transfer their care to us mid pregnancy, because of our willingness to support a woman’s decision for VBAC and our success rates of vaginal birth.  I think it is important for all to know that we take VBAC seriously and want our patients to be educated on the risk and benefits of this.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance

October 15th is the national day of pregnancy and infant loss remembrance.  It is a day that allows us all to take a moment from our busy lives to recognize the loss of life during or after a pregnancy.  For those who have experienced these losses, I know you probably think about it on a daily basis.  I thought I would take a moment to express the pregnancy loss side of things from an obstetrical provider’s point of view.

WakeMed North: The Kamm McKenzie Plan

Follow the Yellow Brick Road: Allergy Season and Pollen Relief

Pollen season is upon us, coloring  - and covering - everything in its path bright yellow!  If you are  pregnant this time of year, you may have noticed an increase in your symptoms whether you’ve  previously suffered from allergies or not. Often times pregnancy will cause a flare in your allergies, and  what used to be just a mild annoyance is now a full on attack of your eyes, nose and throat.

Birth Plans: One Doctor's Point of View

Most of our patients have some sort of birth plan.  Some are super simple and others are ten pages long.  Some patients don’t even write it down.  They just tell me “Dr. B, we just want a healthy mom and a healthy baby.”
